First Lieutenant Edward H. Miller was a pilot assigned to the Aviation Section of the Army Signal Corps in WWI. He also attended the School of Military Aeronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Massachusetts. The wool trousers tapered from knee to ankle and were worn with this coat. Bandage-like puttees were worn wrapped around the leg below the knee.
