Scratched into the lighter’s paint are some of the places where Gerard Dufresne was stationed–Leyte, Luzon, Butner Bay, Sasebo, and Fukuoka. The other side of the lighter reads Jerry (his nickname), Ie Shima, Okinawa, Oahu, Kauai, and Kyushu.

Gerard R. Dufresne entered the U.S. Army Air Force at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts, in 1944. He attended armorer school at Lowry Field, Colorado, and  flexible gunnery school at Tyndall Field, Florida. He was assigned to the 320th and 822nd Bombardment Squadrons.
