Montagnard Knife with Sheath

Description

The Montagnards are the indigenous peoples of the Central Highlands in Vietnam. Donor, Brigadier General Jon A. Reynolds, was stationed in the Central Highlands as air liaison officer and forward air controller with the 22nd Division, Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN).

He received this knife in trade from a Montagnard man. The knife has a 12-inch blade and wooden handle with metal collar. The sheath is made of wood in two parts held together at the blade tip end with a wooden plug and tied at the other end with wire and braided grass.
