Operation Vittles Cookbook

Description

American women who were stationed with their husbands in Berlin during the Berlin Airlift in 1949 compiled this cookbook. The 100-page, hardbound book was published by Deutscher Verlag. Each page contains a recipe, illustration, personal anecdote, and a reproduction of the signature of each recipe contributor.

The first five pages show black and white photos of the airlift. The last five pages are black and white reproductions of children’s drawings.

The donor’s mother lived in one of the local villages before military dependents were sent back to the U.S. The donor’s father, Colonel James D. Campbell, was commander of Rhein-Main Air Base during the airlift.
